Welcome to VICE Eats World: Food Porn From Around the Globe

For our new column VICE Eats World, we asked our staff to submit photos of all of the food they encounter at every corner of the globe their roles take them to.

At MUNCHIES, we obviously love to eat. But it's not just us who's keen on stuffing our faces: The rest of the VICE staff—who are scattered all over the planet working on stories, projects, and videos—also knows how to eat like champs.

For our new column, VICE Eats World, we asked fellow VICE employees to submit photos of all of the fodder they encountered at whatever corner of the globe their roles took them to. Food porn and travel are the cornerstones of MUNCHIES—why not get by with some delicious help from our friends?

"I work for HBO and the network, and we're currently producing a series with Vikram Gandhi tentatively called

My Experiments in Truth

. We were recently in Mauritania for two and a half weeks and ate a lot of what's called

méchoui

. It's essentially spit-roasted lamb cooked over fire served with local bread. You pull up in the car, they gauge the size of your group, pick the sheep outside that looks like the right size for your group, and they slit its throat and toss it on the grill."

VEW-alex-2

"You eat with your right hand and use a knive with your left. Or often just get two people to grab a huge chunk and pull in opposite directions until the bite size becomes manageable."

VEW-alex-3

"Restaurants consisted of some pillows on the floor and endless sugary mint green tea. The food was actually really good, and although there were some close calls with our digestive tracts, no one really got sick, and we ate well."

"I was in Tokyo for business with my American coworkers from New York. I am originally from Osaka, Japan, but never lived in Tokyo, so I don't know much about good restaurants there. Actually, my coworker wanted to eat brunch at this place—

Mercer Brunch

in Roppongi, Tokyo."

"I ordered the salmon tartare, avocado, and poached egg with dill sauce that comes with two brioche French toasts. The French toast was just amazing. Crunchy on the outside and moist and juicy inside. It melts in your mouth! You don't need syrup because it's sweet. No wonder why there was a line with tons of girls."

VEW-miki-matsuda-2

"When I went back to my hometown of Osaka, my friend took me to this place—Teppanya Yoshi in Fukushima-ku Osaka. The place is a bit hard to find and small, but it has a great cozy atmosphere."

VEW-miki-matsuda-1

"Osaka is famous for

okonomiyaki

(Japanese pizza). Typical otokomiyaki is covered with sweet-tasting sauce, but this one was with salt. I have never had it before, but it was great."

VEW-miki-matsuda-3

"We also enjoyed the buttery taste of the

teppanyaki

edamame. You just put the whole edamame in your mouth and enjoy the butter and salt."

Valerie DeVito Research Manager

"I'm working on a research project about understanding the role of mobile among Millennials transitioning into college. To help one of our clients understand this life transition, we set out to conduct focus groups in three different US markets to understand the lives of todays' college students. We traveled for two weeks, speaking to students from major universities, learning about their everyday lives and the different technologies they use to enhance their experiences."
