Parramatta Eels strike weapon Corey Norman has been convicted of drug possession after the was found with MDMA capsules and muscle relaxants at Sydney's Star Casino in May. Despite police and prosecution not opposing Norman's request for a Section 10 Order (where no conviction would be recorded) the magistrate decided a conviction would be recorded also issuing a fine of $400.

He was found with the drugs after a photograph emerged on Instagram of Norman at dinner earlier in the evening with known figures from Sydney's criminal underworld, prompting a warning from the NSW organised crime squad.

Norman is not the only player in the Parramatta lineup with a criminal conviction. In form front rower Danny Wicks spent 18 months in prison after pleading guilty to three counts of supply for trafficking 150 ecstasy tablets and more than 20 grams of methylamphetamine in 2011. Last week's man of the match, Manu Ma'u has also done time in New Zealand for his part in a gang fight as a teenager.

Norman is currently weathering a sex-tape scandal—in which he is alleged to be seen pouring beer over a woman while performing an explicit act—while at the same time being forced to answer for a snapchat he sent to team mates featuring an "old man" snorting white powder.

Despite this he has struck a rich vein of form recently, playing a decisive hand in last week's thriller against the Sydney Roosters at Pirtek Stadium. It is unclear whether he will take the field in their do-or-die clash against the Penrith Panthers this weekend.
