Iron Maiden Pay Tribute to Your Favorite Video Games With Their New Video for "Speed of Light"

Level up with the heavy metal masters.

Iron Maiden's upcoming album Book of Souls is one of—if not the—most anticipated heavy metal release of the year (sorry, Slayer, but Maiden is Maiden). Bruce and the the boys have been coyly letting slip bits and pieces of information little by little, but late last night, our first proper glimpse into the band's sixteenth studio album erupted onto Youtube. The album itself drops September 4 and is available for preorder now (and yes, there will be a vnyl version), but until then, sate yourself on a blazing new Iron Maiden epic, "Speed of Light," which is the second track on the upcoming double LP.

The pizel-heavy video for "Speed of Light" takes its title almost literally as we see the band's eternal mascot and beloved bag'o'bones Eddie zooming through cyberspace to land in the thick of classic video games. We see him battle his way through the worlds of Streets of Rage, Mortal Kombat, Rampage, and Unreal Tournament, conquering evil robots, familiar-looking beasts, and dinosaurs in pursuit of glory. It's fucking phenomenal, and you need to go watch it right now.
