Having directed the sensationally moving (and emotionally grueling) romantic drama Blue Valentine, American filmmaker Derek Cianfrance is back with an altogether more ambitious but nevertheless intimate crime drama The Place Beyond the Pines, starring Ryan Gosling, Eva Mendes and Bradley Cooper. While the film has divided opinion here at Grolsch Film Works, one thing we've all agreed on is how unique and spellbinding the film's images are, thanks to the handy work of cinematographer Sean Bobbitt, who's clearly one of the best at work today.

THE WEEK IN GIFS

Everyone in the new Liberace movie has terrible hair.

The trailer for Behind the Candelabra was released this week and everyone had a really great time laughing about everyone's hair (mainly Rob Lowe's, though). The movie, which will premiere on HBO, follows the relationship between Liberace (Michael Douglas) and Scott Thorson, the young man he had a secret relationship with (Matt Damon). Oh, and Rob Lowe plays Liberace's plastic surgeon. Plus Steven Soderbergh's directing so…everyone just contain their excitement for now, OK? We have lives to be getting on with.

We've all been waiting with bated breath to hear when David Lynch will next be wrapping his masterful hands around a camera. But did we ever think he'd be more interested in returning to the small screen? HELL NO.
