Grab a Six-Pack and Get a Poppy Garage Buzz With Today’sHits

Listen to a new song about that guy who works down at the local liquor store.

If there's anything that James Swanberg knows a thing or two about it's pop songs and booze. Swanberg started his Chicago band Today'sHits, as an outlet for a project whereby he would write, record, and upload a song a day. Most of the songs were written while he was working as a clerk at various liquor stores.

So it makes sense that one of the first tracks lifted from the band's self-titled debut LP is called "Beverage Boi".

"I started working in liquor stores in Lexington, Kentucky in 2007 and my string lasted until 2015 in Chicago. I couldn't get out of them. I tried multiple times to get fired. I put in my two weeks notice 7-8 times. I FUCKING MOVED. I couldn't get away. I averaged 50 hours a week inside a liquor store for 8 years. That's close to 20,000 hours with the least of the population. I was the Cooler Jerk."

The band's self-titled debut to be released July 21 on Chicago label Randy Records, brims with peppy pop and no better example is "Beverage Boi" which Swannberg says is a good summation of his life as a liquor store clerk. "Everyone thinks you're cool but nobody wants anything to do with you. They assume you've got it all figured out. You're the start of the party but then they leave. They go to the party and you stay. You wait. Til it's late. Til the party is over. Then you go home. You smoke dope and head back in the next day hoping one day she comes in and says "Lock it up. You're coming with me."

Today'sHits self-titled album is available for pre-order through Randy Records.
