Dean Smith's Trust Sends $200 Check to Every Player He Ever Coached

As part of a trust he set up in the event of his death, Dean Smith sent $200 to every player he coached with instructions to enjoy a dinner out on him.

Legendary North Carolina head coach Dean Smith passed away on February 7, and his estate has begun the process of settling his affairs, one of which is the Dean E. Smith Revocable Trust. Smith set up a trust, one of the purposes of which was to provide a $200 check to each varsity letterman he coached as a way to show his appreciation. The Trust was also instructed to tell each player to "enjoy a dinner out compliments of coach Dean Smith." Smith was the UNC head coach for 36 years so… that's a lot of dinners.

It's cool to see that this was something Smith even thought about, the bar is that low for college sports, but it's also hilarious to see the kind of robot weirdos lawyers are: "Enclosed is a check in the amount of two hundred dollars ($200) with the notation 'Dinner out'.

Please enjoy your dinner out."
