This Indian Bloody Mary Cures Hangovers with Spice

The Bloody Batra swaps the traditional Bloody Mary’s hot sauce and lemon juice in favour of Eastern-inspired ingredients like chili and mustard seeds.

We get it. It's Sunday morning: the light is too bright, your head is somewhere on the scale of fuzzy to full-on death grip migraine and those first tentative steps out of bed have you wobbling like a senile aunt on roller skates.

Luckily, there is a drink to save you from the manifestations of last night's debauchery. And it tastes a bit like curry. Say hello to the Bloody Batra.

RECIPE: Bloody Batra

Gunpowder, a modern Indian restaurant in London's Spitalfields, slipped us the recipe for their take on a Bloody Mary. It swaps the traditional hangover-bashing hot sauce and lemon juice in favour of Eastern-inspired ingredients.

Simply shake tomato juice, vodka, and zingy lime juice with ground Bengali mustard seeds and half a chili for some soothing heat. If you're feeling fancy, wet the rim of the glass with more lime juice for a salt and pepper garnish. Pour in the tomato juice mixture, stick in the other chili half and a celery stick, and you're good to go. That's better, isn't it?
