Last week, the government announced they would be holding a plebiscite to try and figure out what Australia thinks of marriage equality. The endless reports and statistics insisting people are largely chill with it apparently weren't enough—so now we're stuck with a big, expensive, non-compulsory postal opinion poll that can be manipulated to give the NO answer conservative politicians are hoping for.

If that wasn't bad enough, we were given less than two weeks to make sure our enrolment details were up to date. If yours aren't, you can't take part and your opinion won't be counted. As Malcolm Turnbull ironically pointed out in 1997 when arguing that postal plebiscites were bullshit: "This will particularly hurt young people, many of them students, who move more often than older people settled in families."

You'd better believe old mates aren't going to forget to check they updated their address when they moved last year—so you can't either. Having your opinion counted is already a win, but in case you needed a little more incentive we've teamed up with some of our pals to try and sweeten the deal. Below are a list of discounts and specials you can claim with proof your enrolment details are up to date.

All you need to do is go to the Australian Electoral Commission website and enrol, check or update your information, then show the below businesses a screenshot of your verified enrolment details. These deals are valid until registration closes on 24 August 2017.

We'll be updating this list over the week, so make sure you're checking in regularly. If you're a business who would like to get on board with this initiative, you can contact us here.

If you don't have a business, you can still take part in getting people to enrol by throwing a party for Equality Weekender, the nationwide enrolment drive taking place this weekend. Register your event and find more information here.
