Jaguars RB Denard Robinson Rescued After Cops Found Him Asleep in a Sinking Car

Denard Robinson fell asleep in a sinking car and didn't want to get out when he first woke up.

Jaguars running back Denard Robinson had to be rescued by police when they found him asleep behind the wheel of his car as it sank into a retention pond in Jacksonville early Sunday morning. Robinson was involved in a single car accident and cops found him and a female passenger both asleep in his Chevy Impala at around 4:20 in the morning as the car sat in the pond. According to investigators, Robinson turned over a sidewalk and entered the pond.

The driver's side of the car was submerged in the pond, so the officer approached the passenger side and knocked on the window to wake the two up, according to the report.

The report said Robinson then "opened his eyes and then went back to sleep."

The officer continued to knock on the window until the passenger, 29-year-old Marissa O. Staples of Cincinnati, said "what's up," according to the report.

The officer explained the car was in a pond and they needed to get out.

The officer was able to remove Staples from the car, and then turned to Robinson, who did not want to get out because he thought they were still on the road. After trying and failing to open the driver's side door three times, Robinson eventually figured out that the car was sinking and he had to get out on the passenger side.

He was evaluated for DUI, but officers determined he was not impaired. He and Staples both refused medical attention and were able to leave, though not in his car, because it was totaled.
