Yesterday, I mentioned that Russia had threatened to nix any deals bringing Turkish players to Russian clubs in the January window. Tensions between the two countries are high after Turkey downed a Russian fighter plane last week. FIFA says it's monitoring the situation. The governing body will take action if necessary, but didn't say anything "concrete." (Link in German) Politics and football, y'all.

The 36 teams in Germany's top 2 divisions are meeting at league offices in Frankfurt today to discuss television revenue. Two particular issues are being discussed: First, St. Pauli has proposed to exclude any team with less than 50% fan ownership from receiving television revenue; second, Bayern is bidding to increase the share of revenue received by teams at the top of the table. Fans in Australia look set to boycott A League matches over a prolonged issue regarding lack of an appeal process for fans banned from A League stadiums.

Match-fixing mastermind Dan Tan was re-arrested in Singapore. To the dismay of just about everyone, everywhere, he was released early from prison last week.

Karim Benzema appeared on French TV to discuss the weird sex tape blackmail case he's caught up in. He said it was all a big misunderstanding. Naturally. (Link in Spanish)

Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, the president of Mauritius Mauritania, is alleged to have become bored at a domestic cup final and ordered the match to penalties…in the 63rd minute.

Sky Sports pundit/England assistant coach and former Manchester United captain Gary Neville took over as head coach of Valencia until the end of the season. He had been heavily linked with Fulham in recent days. According to Jordi Mestre, our esteemed Spanish editor, Valencia is "one of the craziest clubs in Spain," and not ideal for a first-time manager. But better than Fulham!

Former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink also appears close to taking over as QPR manager.
