Residents in California's Bay Area woke up to a 4.0-magnitude earthquake on Monday morning, followed by five aftershocks, all of which were under 2.5-magnitude.

The earthquake hit at 6:49 AM and originated in Piedmont, California, 13 miles east of San Francisco. The Piedmont police have not yet reported any damage caused by the quake or its subsequent aftershocks, but NBC News said that Bay Area Rapid Transit paused operations, as is customary following an earthquake.

The Bay Area earthquake comes just hours after a separate 4.0-magnitude earthquake rocked Southern California near San Diego on Sunday night. There are no reported damages from that quake at this time, either.
