The world-beating, still incredible Basement Jaxx remix of Missy Elliott's "4 My People" aside, and ignoring the glory days of the Tyree Cooper headed hip-house movement, dance producers taking on rappers has never really worked. Until now, obviously.Chateau Marmont, aka Raphael Vialla and Julien Galner, have spent the last few years infusing the filter-madness of French Touch with R&B and good old fashioned NYC mid-90s house music, so it's not surprising that their take on Joey Bada$'s "Teach Me" is a killer. The pair have escorted the New York rapper into a seductive world of lightly lysergic billowing synths, stiff kicks, and the kind of quietly euphoric strings that always work best at the end of the night. There's a subtle sadness to their remix that leaves the listener thinking that poor old Joey's never going to get that dancing lesson he's after. Why not drop him an @ and offer him one yourself?
