It's a little-known fact that Lionel Richie's 1983 chart topper "All Night Long" was actually inspired by the singer-songwriter's near-crippling bout of nocturnal interior decorating.

Ok…so maybe it isn't. Like, at all, probably. That being said, the following bit of news will leave you questioning everything you thought you knew about the 66-year-old former Motown Records artist. In fact, it just might give you a new long-term career path, should you be an aspiring musician but eventually wish to get into interior decorating—the keyword in that sentence being "eventually."

That's because Lionel Richie launched his own line of tableware at the beginning of the month. The Lionel Richie Home Collection is now a reality and as the New York Post reports, we apparently have the inspiration the singer received from his estates in Alabama and Beverly Hills to thank for it.

"I want something that's going to make a statement in design—classic contemporary is the best way I would describe it," explains Richie when discussing the collection, which consists of barware, glassware, dinnerware, and other tabletop items.

So, why in the hell is Richie suddenly branching out into the realm of Martha Stewart and Anthropologie?

"Home design has been a passion of mine forever. The idea [of starting a home collection] has been percolating for about six or seven years."

Richie describes the collection as "classic contemporary" and he plans to extend the line to something called LR Studio, which will target the hospitality industry. Also coming is LR Loft, described as more "youthful" and "colorful." Richie told the New York Post that he is inspired, design-wise, by Abu Dhabi and Dubai and that his kids describe his house as a "museum."

Who would have guessed that America's crooniest songster had such an eye for and appreciation of design?

Here's to hoping the Lionel Richie Home Collection will have many-a-table dancing on the ceiling.
