Aside from a dapper seersucker suit, a serious case or the vapors, or a crushing gambling debt, there are few things more closely associated with the iconic Kentucky Derby than the quintessential drink of Southern hospitality, the mint julep.

To that end, we decided to take the best elements from numerous mint julep recipes and create one classic mint julep recipe in honor of the 142nd running of the Kentucky Derby. The recipe is just about as simple as they get and happens to only use three ingredients—one of which is a pretty large amount of mint sprigs.
