Make Your House Smell Like Fried Chicken with This KFC Scented Candle

The Colonel made a candle.

In the summer, it was sun cream. As autumn came and we retreated indoors, it was nail varnish.

And now, Kentucky Fried Chicken, the global fried chicken chain seemingly intent on massaging and/or painting the smell of low-grade poultry and frying fat onto as many human bodies as possible, has created a scented candle.

Just in time for winter.

The Colonel candle is being given away as a competition prize by KFC New Zealand. For the chance to win, fried chicken fans with a penchant for home fragrance are encouraged to post their suggestions for "another piece of KFC merchandise" on the company's social media accounts.

Promoting the competition, KFC New Zealand wrote on its Facebook page: "What better way to light up your nights than with a limited edition KFC Scented Candle! Keen?"

Kiwis were indeed keen. At the time of writing, there are nearly 300 comments on the KFC candle comp Instagram post, with merch suggestions as varied as branded phone cases, bedding sets, and chicken-flavoured lube. (KFC product development team: if you're reading, please dismiss that last one as the confused ramblings of someone way too deep in a solo Bargain Bucket binge.)

KFC will reveal on Monday which lucky fans get the chance to warm their homes with the scent of burning wax and chemicals engineered to smell like frying chicken. Who needs hygge?
