Man Faces Huge Fines After Using Drone to Bring Sausage to His Hot Tub

Yet, like some modern-day Icarus flying too close to the sun, Tim, too, was burned, crashing precipitously into the sea.

Leonardo da Vinci, the Wright Brothers, Neil Armstrong: These are just a few of the names monumental in the history of flight. Now, one more joins their illustrious ranks: Tim. Just Tim.

Known only by his first name, the Australian man recently made flight history by daring to dream as only the greatest dreamed before him: by having a sausage delivered to him by drone as he waited, relaxing in a hot tub.

Allured by the wafting scent of sizzling meat, Tim and his mates dispatched the drone to a local grocery store, where a barbecue was taking place, to retrieve a sausage. The whole incident was caught on video and uploaded to YouTube, where it quickly garnered hundreds of thousands of views.

The original video has been removed, but here's a copy:

Yet, like some modern-day Icarus flying too close to the sun, Tim, too, was burned, crashing precipitously into the sea. The sausage and drone enthusiast was hit with a hefty fine by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority of Australia (CASA), who noticed the video online.

Not Time may have to pay up to $9,000 AUD ($7,000 USD) for the infraction.

Speaking to local news, Peter Gibson, a CASA spokesman, said "A busy retail car park is never a sensible place to fly a drone."

"These are real safety risks and it is the responsibility of the people flying the drone to fly according to the safety rules to minimise any risks to people or property."

And, adding insult to injury, the sausage arrived freezing cold after gloriously soaring through the Australian sky.
