Mariah Carey’s Insane Diet Apparently Consists of Nothing But Salmon and Capers

Lisa Moskovitz, a registered dietitian and CEO of the NY Nutrition Group, a Manhattan-based nutrition counseling practice, told MUNCHIES that Carey’s diet leaves a good deal to be desired.

Many celebrities have age-defying bodies that look good on camera while the rest of us feel lucky to be presentable to our loved ones, let alone the outside world. So, just how do they do it?

In a recent interview with E! News, Mariah Carey shared the most Mariah Carey of secrets on how to stay svelte north of the 45-year-old mark.

"It's really hard. My diet, you would hate it," Carey said. "All you eat is Norwegian salmon and capers every day.

"That's it."

Asked by the host if she was serious, she doubled down.

"I'm actually serious. I try to stick with the proteins. It's the worst."

Lisa Moskovitz, a registered dietitian and CEO of the NY Nutrition Group, a Manhattan-based nutrition counseling practice, told MUNCHIES that Carey's diet leaves a good deal to be desired.

"While it may be possible to survive on eating only salmon and capers, it is definitely not recommended or ideal," Moskovitz wrote in an email. "Salmon is very nutritious, offering a great source of protein, anti-inflammatory omega-3 fats, B-vitamins, potassium, phosphorous, and selenium. However, capers are generally low in nutrients and therefore it would be nearly impossible to get in all the essential nutrients that a healthy, high-functioning body requires."

"In order to just get in enough calories, she would need to consume up to 25 ounces"—that's one-and-a-half pounds—"of salmon per day," Moskovitz wrote.

While Mariah is draining the North Atlantic waters of salmon and helping to keep the Norwegian fishing industry afloat, she should look to land for some variety.

"In order to make this a more healthy, sustainable, and balanced approach, I recommend adding in some fruit, lots of vegetables, and even a small amount of whole grains for energy," Moskovitz wrote.

A more rounded diet may be healthier, but it's more fun to imagine Mariah Carey eating nothing but salmon and capers every single day in her insane apartment, which, incidentally, has salmon-coloured walls.
