We Salute You, Lady Stuffing Her Face with Pizza on the Kiss Cam

When life puts you on the Kiss Cam at an NBA game, ignore the people making out in front of you and double-fist some pizza already.

When you're watching sports at home and the game cuts to commercial, you may run to the fridge for another beer or hit the bathroom. But at the stadium, they've got to fill that break in the action with even more action, so they'll either send out the mascot, the cheerleaders, or, worst of all, they'll turn the camera on the crowd.

That can mean a number of things. Who in the crowd is the biggest fan? Who's the best or craziest dancer? And whom can we force to kiss by putting them on camera? At one recent Atlanta Hawks game—and I would argue that the NBA abuses the "Kiss Cam" the most—one woman decided to double-fist pizza instead of finding someone to French.

The dreaded kiss cam can result in some cringeworthy moments. How do the camera guys know that the guy and girl sitting next to each other aren't brother and sister? At best, you see two old people administer a heartwarming peck on the lips, and at worst you get some guy on the phone fighting with his girlfriend who is trying to tell him they're on the Jumbotron. Or some innocent bystanders get a beer in their laps.

The Kiss Cam guy in Atlanta didn't go with a tight frame, so when pizza lady landed up on the camera, a couple seated in front of her started furiously making out and eating each other's face. That's when our hero, pizza box on her lap, went to town on two slices of pepperoni.

Curiously, she's already got two slices of pizza in her hand. Some have suggested that the moment was staged, something that isn't unheard of when it comes to the Kiss Cam. Sure, it may have been, but America—and the Hawks who were down 24–7 at the time—needs something to believe in, and our pizza lady might be it.

In a world of 24/7 information overload, where human bonds are often made and maintained through the medium of a computer or smartphone screen, true love can seem like a thing of the past. Watching this woman devour pizza on camera is perhaps the realest Kiss Cam we've ever seen. It's life-affirming.
