Driver Runs a Red Light Because They’re ‘in a Rush to Get Nando’s’

It ended up costing a cheeky $300 and six penalty points on their licence.

When you're really hangry (yes, it's actually a thing), it can seem like the universe is doing everything it can to get between you and carbs. So, until you can get your mouth around that life-giving cheese and ham panini, you speed through the pile of photocopying your boss has dumped on your desk. You death-stare the guy on the bus who holds everyone up emptying his pockets for change, and take an elbows-out approach when walking along the pavement.

But no matter how much of a gremlin you become when hungry, you probably manage to stay within the confines of the law. The same sadly cannot be said for one seriously hangry Australian whose recent craving for PERi-PERi chicken turned them into a road rule-breaker.

Yesterday, officers from the Western Australian Police Traffic department tweeted a notice they had issued to a driver who ran a red light. The excuse given by the driver?

"I'm in a rush to get the kids Nando's."

The family's insatiable appetite for Portuguese-style chicken and unlimited refills cost the driver more than a case of heartburn after too much extra extra hot sauce. According to the notice, they were fined $300 (AUD) and received six driving licence penalty points.

However, the police department did acknowledge the irresistibility of a cheeky Nando's. The tweet accompanying the notice read: "Nando's Chicken is good but lives are put at risk every time you drive through a RED TCL, there simply is no excuse!!! [sic]"

Lesson learned, kids.
