This Survey Just Confirmed That Food Is More Important Than Your Boyfriend

According to new research, only 8 percent of Brits will upload a picture of their boo to social media this Valentine’s Day. Twenty-percent, however, will post a food-related image.

Unless you've spent the last couple of weeks with your curtains shut, chain-watching Narcos, cultivating your fiercest anti-romance mindset, you'll have noticed shop fronts becoming littered with heart-shaped helium balloons, restaurants unveiling oyster-heavy sharing menus guaranteed "get you in the mood," and a sharp spike in the number of successful Tinder matches.

ICYMI: Valentine's Day is tomorrow. Brace yourself for the onslaught of vom-worthy Instagram pics from couples congratulating themselves on having sex with just one person, while you stay at home in your lounge pants, demolishing a pizza-for-one.

But new research suggests that this year, if you do happen to spend V Day scrolling down an Insta rabbit hole (no judgement), you could come across more photos of gooey Camembert than gooey-eyed selfies.

According to a recent survey carried out by supermarket chain Co-op on the Valentine's Day activities of 2,000 Brits, just 8 percent would post a picture of their boo on February 14. In comparison, 20 percent said they would post a food-related image, such as a romantic meal or a solo dinner.

The research also found that nearly half of respondents thought food was an essential component when spending time with their partner—but not in a chocolate body paint kinda way. When asked about their favourite things to do as a couple, 45 percent of those surveyed responded with PG-rated food activities like going out for a meal, having breakfast in bed, and cooking at home.

So, tomorrow evening, as your feed turns into a frenzy of candlelit dinner pics and heart emoji-ridden captions, we say: If you can't beat them, join them. Crack out the tea lights and take snaps of your baked Brie starter, fancy salmon main, and chocolate truffle dessert. No one need know that the M&S Dine In for Two meal was just for you.
