Is Mezza about to start a different kind of Bake Off?

With 22 cookbooks, multiple television series (including the BBC's Great British Bake Off, RIP, never forget etc), and a line of cookware and sauces, Mary Berry has been a national food treasure for over 50 years. Now, she could be adding another string to her bow by breaking into the edibles market.

Well, kind of.

Viewers of Berry's BBC Two television show, Mary Berry Everyday, were left confused last night when the baking queen announced that she would be putting an unusual spin on hors d'oeuvres as an homage to the halcyon days of the 1960s. While preparing the party snacks with pal Shirley, Berry announced: "For my golden anniversary dinner tonight, we're going to bring a 60s theme to some cannabis … I thought it would be a good idea to do some cannabis, as we used to do."

Disappointingly, Berry wasn't about to produce a plate of weed-infused salmon atop tiny little crackers. She just has a funny way of saying "canapés." Still, it wasn't long before Berry's cannabis/canapés comments caught the attention of Twitter, with many tweeting their surprise at the 82-year-old's apparent decision to commemorate 50 years of marriage by smoking a fat doobie just like we did back in the Summer of Love, man.

The confusion was soon cleared up later on in the episode, when Mezza told Shirley that the only thing that she rolled during the 60s was asparagus into bread dough.

After Berry's misunderstanding of hemp cake on the 2013 series of GBBO, we're inclined to believe her.
