KFC Is Now Experiencing a Gravy Shortage

And you thought it couldn’t get any worse than last week's chicken shortage.

It was meant to be over. KFC told everyone via a full-page newspaper ad that the terrible chicken shortage of ’18 had ended. The stores forced to close last week would reopen. You stopped searching eBay for Bargain Buckets and your blood pressure returned to normal. It was going to be OK.

Except it wasn’t, because KFC has now run out of gravy.

After switching from South African-owned distribution group Bidvet to DHL on February 14, the chicken chain has been struggling to deliver food to its restaurants, resulting in hundreds of closures and limited menus. According to the Daily Telegraph, while most KFC locations have opened again following “teething problems” with DHL, the chain is now experiencing a gravy supply issue.

A KFC spokesperson confirmed last night that 97 percent of KFC restaurants across the UK had reopened, but that it was now experiencing a shortage of gravy. “Due to the ongoing distribution challenges DHL is experiencing, some restaurants are continuing to serve a reduced menu,” they said.

They added: “We're working as hard as we can to get this sorted out. We know that our gravy is a big favourite!”

KFC hasn’t explained why DHL has had problems delivering food over the past two weeks, but one theory is that it’s due to a crash on the M6. The crash, which took place in Rugby in the Midlands, occurred near to the DHL’s only distribution centre.

Although the chicken chain is famous for its, er, chicken, KFC’s gravy is also a customer favourite. So much so, that people often stockpile the side dish for their Christmas dinner, resulting in a 20 percent increase in sales over the festive period.

So, only nine months until the shit really hits the fan.
