Those pesky royals may struggle when it comes to not being racist, dressing up as Nazis, or forcing women to conduct press conferences mere hours after pushing an actual human baby out of their vagina, but boy do they know how to spend money. Except, it seems, when it comes to members of the public invited to the Harry and Meghan’s special day.

According to the Guardian, over 1,000 guests invited to the royal wedding have been told to bring “a picnic lunch,” as the royal family—who have an estimated worth of over £400 million—will not be providing them with a meal.

On the invite, it states that guests are required to bring a picnic lunch as “it will not be possible to buy food and drink on site.” They will be standing at the borders of Saint George’s chapel in Windsor Castle where the wedding is taking place for at least four hours.

The 1,200 guests selected by Lord Lieutenants includes a selection of young people, “who have shown strong leadership,” as well as “those who have served their communities.” This includes youth workers from Coventry, the owner of a cafe that employs disabled people, and the former young mayor of Lewisham. The collection of poor people—or guests, if you will—were invited to allow the public “to feel part of the celebrations too,” according to a press release from Kensington Palace.

Saeed Atcha, one of the members of the public invited to the celebration, and founder of Bolton-based magazine Xplode, told the Guardian that asking guests to bring their own lunch was “unfathomable.”

When asked to verify the lunch situation, Kensington Palace told MUNCHIES: ”As guidance, members of the public are very welcome to bring their own picnics. Light refreshments will also be available, and snacks will be provided.”

Still, if the guests do find themselves getting peckish whilst watching the rich people get married, there’s always a McDonald’s around the corner.
