DC Restaurant Lowers Drink Prices Every Time Trump Fires a Senior White House Official

There will probably be many impromptu happy hours to come.

A restaurant called The Bird in Washington, DC is now offering $4 happy hour drinks every time President Trump fires a senior White House official.

Which, judging from recent history, means that drinks at The Bird will be $4 each for the foreseeable future.

The people behind The Bird seem to know a solid marketing gimmick when they see one. After all, the restaurant is organized around a poultry theme—the menu says it serves "poultry of every distinction" and is filled with items like Old School Deviled Eggs and Duck Meatballs, both of which can be found in a category called "Early Pecks."

But, of late, the restaurant appears to be less motivated by fowl and more so by politics. A few weeks ago, The Bird began offering a special cocktail called "The Mooch," named, of course, after the world's shortest-lived White House communications director, Anthony Scaramucci.

Then, after White House Chief Strategist Stephen Bannon departed from the White House, the discounted happy hour tied to White House firings really took off.

The Bird's GM, Stephan Antoniewicz, said the idea arose when his bar manager told him that a pizzeria in Charlottesville, Virginia offered discounted drinks during every rainstorm. Antoniewicz evidently analogized rainstorms to shitstorms and, voila, Washington, DC now has a place to get loaded while drowning its political sorrows.

Bottoms up, DC. You deserve a drink right now—and probably very much need it.
