Grill Your Pineapple for a Better Piña Colada

Yes, we’ve managed to improve the world’s greatest tropical drink.

Memorial Day weekend is finally here, which means that after a long and grueling winter, and something like a few weeks of spring, we're kind of at the unofficial beginning of summer. It's also the official start of BBQ season, which is basically the best time of year.

We now enter into that lovely time of year with more skin and less clothes, when drinking begins well before the sun starts to fade, and when the food at our parties is cooked over a bed of hot coals.

But while we're at it, why not just make our cocktails over a bed of hot coals?

Not only will will grilling a cocktail make you look like a total badass with an almost overzealous dedication to making a perfect cocktail, but the flame-broiled char on your pineapples will also give them a caramelized flavor to take your piña colada to the next level.

RECIPE: Grilled Piña Colada

Just slice open the pineapple, scoop out the flesh, and throw it on the grill. Then blend up the fruit with coconut milk, fresh lime juice, rum, and a whole lot of ice, and throw the whole thing back into the core of your pineapple.

Finally, add one of those little paper umbrellas and a straw or six (preferably colorful and twisty), and find a few friends to share with. If drinking a fresh-made tropical drink out of a pineapple doesn't make you the life of the party, find new friends.
