10 Chicken Wing Recipes for Super Bowl Sunday Because Football Requires Wings

We don't make the rules, we just enforce them.

Look, we don’t make the rules. You have to eat chicken wings while watching football. That's doubly important if it's for the Super Bowl, and don’t argue with us.

But that doesn't meant that we’re purists here. We won’t regulate what kind of chicken wings you have, won’t judge you for how safe (good ol' Buffalo wings), or how experimental (chongqing chicken wings from Mission Chinese Food) you choose to go. The only rule is this: There's gotta be wings, and they've gotta be saucy.

No matter who you've got money on for this year's Super Bowl, your night will end well if you've got some of these crispy, spicy wings in the kitchen. Let's bust out those Dutch ovens, start some vegetable oil on high heat, and get to frying.

Easy Buffalo Chicken Wings Recipe

Easy Buffalo Wings Recipe

Simple, classic, the Platonic ideal of the Buffalo chicken wing, this recipe calls for hot sauce that is "preferably Frank’s Red Hot." If we're honest, though, you’re doing it all wrong if you're not using Frank's.

Saucy Buffalo Chicken Wings

This saucier take on the classic Buffalo-style wing hails from our pal Matty Matheson's favorite spot in Ontario, Southsides Patio Bar and Grill. They might be saucy, but you'll still want plenty of ranch and/or blue cheese for dipping on the side.

Blackened Chicken Wings Recipe

Like the best fried chicken recipes, these blackened chicken wings rely on a flavorful buttermilk marinade. Sorghum might not be an ingredient you're familiar with, but if you can find it (or sub in some molasses), it puts the chili honey glaze for these wings over the edge.

Crispy Adobo Chicken Wings Recipe

Chicken adobo is a dish for which Filipina mothers and grandmothers have a recipe so cherished that it's basically a family heirloom. Without bastardizing it too much, the classic soy-vinegar sauce makes a perfect glaze for crispy adobo chicken wings.

Cacio e Pepe Chicken Wings

Action Bronson doesn't do anything by halves—this we know. So if you want your Super Bowl feast to come with a little side of excess, give these cheesy, buttery cacio e pepe chicken wings a shot.

Mission Chinese Food's Chongqing Chicken Wings Recipe

Fair warning: If you order your chicken wings with "mild" sauce, you might want to pass on this recipe. But if you can handle your spice, these slightly-mouth-numbing wings from Mission Chinese are for you.

Dill Pickle Chicken Wings Recipe

Dill pickle sounds like maybe not your first choice for chicken wing flavors. But trust us and make these pickle-brined chicken wings. Use a good, garlicky pickle brine, and it'll open your eyes to a world of new uses for pickle juice other than shot backs.

Easy Glazed Chicken Wings Recipe

These marinated-and-glazed wings are packed full of umami thanks to a generous amount of fish sauce. They've got the sticky, crispy feel of a good Buffalo wing but with a slightly sweeter flavor profile that's perfect for folks who don't love the tartness of Frank's Red Hot.

Curry Leaf Popcorn Chicken Recipe

For your "boneless chicken wing" option, consider these outrageously good, perfectly crispy popcorn chicken bites from cookbook author Nik Sharma. With plenty of flavoring in the breading, they don't need a sauce, so they'll leave your fingers a little cleaner than a glazed wing.

Buffalo Chicken Dip Recipe

OK, so it's not a "wing" exactly, but it sure does taste like the best Buffalo chicken ever. If frying a ton of wings doesn't sound like your idea of fun on Super Bowl Sunday, make this Buffalo chicken dip instead. Thanks to the fried chicken skin topping, you'll still get plenty of crispy bits.
