'Tidal Wave of Beer' Soaks Cop During Traffic Stop

Turns out, irony tastes like asphalt and a massive flood of lager.

Do you think Bacchus happens to have a super strong affinity for meta-AF pranks? Is there really such a thing as karma—and does it sometimes work instantaneously? Do cops get their uniforms dry-cleaned for free, or just toss it in with their gym shorts at home?

These are just some of the questions that might pop into your mind upon viewing this video of a traffic stop outside of Las Vegas:

The reigning spirits of Mardi Gras wouldn't even have the nerve to dream this one up.
Yes: a police officer doing a routine DUI pull-over was doused with 1,000 pounds of beer just after asking the occupants of the car whether they had had anything to drink. Evidently, a nearby beer truck had lost control, sending its cargo flying all over the Las Vegas highway.

Someone please check old Wile E. Coyote cartoons, because only Hanna-Barbera could have foreseen this insanity. Now is the time to wonder whether we're all in one big video game, and the omnipotent players are having a hearty laugh at our expense.

At least Trooper Travis Smaka, a member of the Nevada Highway Patrol, seems to have had a sense of humor about the whole event (or maybe he was just fearful of tempting the fates), because he is reported to have let the driver go without a ticket, after both he and the occupants of the car were deluged in a geyser of beer.

Smarka told a local news station that as soon as he asked the driver whether he had had anything to drink that night, he heard something that "made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck." Before he knew it, a "tidal wave of beer [was] coming at me."

Does anyone know if The Hangover: Part IX is filming now?

As for why the offending beer truck suddenly lost control at that moment, Nevada State Trooper Jason Buratczuk guesses that someone may have cut off the tractor-trailer.

We're pretty convinced, though, that the spirits in the sky were feeling mischievous, because you just can't make this shit up.
