One of Trump's Key National Security Advisors Is a Prolific Wine Blogger

The man is also deeply conflicted as to how to best retain a pheasant’s moisture while simultaneously achieving crisp skin.

Michael Anton, President Trump's senior director of strategic communications at the National Security Council, is one hell of an interesting dude. A man of strong convictions, he has said he is surprised that a nuclear attack by Islamic fundamentalists against the US hasn't happened yet—but he's pretty sure one is coming soon. In fact, he says, it's "inevitable."

Sure, Anton's musings on the coming apocalypse and why Trump deserves to be POTUS have been called the "source code of Trumpism." But Anton happens to have strong opinions on other things, too. Like men's clothing. And fine wine. And food.

In fact, as The Intercept has revealed, Anton has taken to a men's fashion website called Styleforum.net, and—under the username "Manton"—he has posted 41,561—that's right, 41,561—comments on everything from how to construct a nuclear weapon to which bottles of wine his kids' babysitter stole from his wine cellar. The man is also deeply conflicted as to how to best retain a pheasant's moisture while simultaneously achieving crisp skin.

According to The Intercept, "Most of his posts on Styleforum.net revolve around fine clothing and fine wines." Perhaps this isn't surprising from a man who authored a book entitled, The Suit: A Machiavellian Approach to Men's Style.

From bombs to Bordeaux. Michael Anton has been sharing his opinions on the comment boards at Styleforum.net since 2002. Still, he wasn't particularly pleased when The Intercept revealed the extent and nature of his pontifications.

He reportedly accused the publication of doing a "hit piece" on him and asked, "Why are you trying to kill me?" An interesting complaint considering he once wrote on Styleforum "I am stuck here [NYC] until I die, which might be soon."

Not that there's anything wrong with knowing a thing or two about wine. It just may not sit so well when the president you serve is trying to put forth a "man of and for the little people" image, despite Trump's own wealth and tendency to favor the overtly grandiose.

So, if you thought the most riveting news coming to come out of the National Security space of late was the departure of retired general Michael Flynn, who had been appointed to head the NSC last month but was forced out when news hit that he had repeatedly lied about phone calls he made to the Russian ambassador following the election, you'd be dead wrong. Anton has a lot to say about nuclear weapons, Marx, and the apocalypse he's sure is coming soon.

In the meantime, though, he'll be enjoying a bit of 2007 Villa Antinori alongside some haricots verts and a leek galette.
