Woman Arrested for Forging Car Registration Sticker with Cheese Wrapper

“Making fake stickers is never a gouda idea,” according to the police department involved in this case.

When you see the words "These prices held until Jul 8" alongside "Cooper Cracked Pepper Sharp Cheese," you're probably looking at a brick of cheese at the grocery store—not a car.

But such was the fate of cops in Alexandria, New Hampshire, who made a routine traffic stop on Saturday only to uncover an even more serious and strange offense. Upon closer inspection, the car they had pulled over appeared to be covered in fake registration stickers made from cheese wrappers.

And while being creative isn't a crime, driving around with cut up squares of cheese wrappers instead of actual registration is; the unnamed driver of the car was arrested on the spot and could have the book thrown at her.

"Driving an uninspected or unregistered vehicle is a violation level offense and punishable by a small set fine," Alexandria police said in a Facebook post addressing the arrest and providing pictures of forged stickers. "The punishment for making fake stickers is a misdemeanor and punishable by a fine up to $1200. In this case, the driver could be fined up to $2,400, plus her car was towed and impounded until she properly registers it are had it properly towed from the lot."

The absurdity of this alleged crime was not lost on the police department, who missed no opportunity to make cheesy puns and dad jokes about it on Facebook.

So, it looks like case closed on this one. But you can bet that the hardworking men and women of the Alexandria police force will be paying a lot more attention to registration stickers—and cheese labels—in the future.
