This Week in Food Porn: Mexican Pizza and Blood Orange Granita

To inspire your sun-starved palate, here are some of the most appetising spring food photos uploaded to Instagram this week—and not a grey cloud in sight.

Daylight saving happened, your Facebook feed is stuffed with photos of gently wilting daffodils, and somewhere a lamb is probably being born. In other words: spring has officially sprung! It might not be t-shirt weather yet but there was actual blue sky and sunlight for at least 20 minutes on Tuesday afternoon. Let's at least attempt to drink cans of premixed Pimm's in the park. We can wear gloves.

With all this vitamin D surging through our pasty bodies, it's only right to fuel up with a similarly sunny selection of snacks. To inspire your sun-starved palate, here are some of the most appetising photos uploaded to Instagram this week—and not a grey cloud in sight.

Check out this vanilla/chocolate marble cake with fresh fruit & 'cream cheese' frosting that we made as a commission for someone's birthday! Super fun to create, thank you Zahria and happy birthday Rehana!!! #vegan #vrevbakes #northernquarter

You know, you really hurt the tomato plant's feelings when you said her new haircut wasn't flattering for a fuller face. You should probably be more sensitive in future.

Fancy looking Fairchild's Mule at Dandelyan bar in London - made with gin, lime, pink clove, green cardamom, ginger and champagne…and let's not forget the pretty pansy. @mondrianldn #dandelyan #bar #drink #cocktail #cocktails #cocktailoclock #gin #champagne #cheers #southbank #london #england #britain #travel A photo posted by Emer (@the1emer) on Mar 21, 2016 at 12:01pm PDT

Purple petaled flowers aren't just for making your mum's front garden look nice, they're for complimenting the complex flavour interplay of green cardamon, ginger, and Champagne. Don't be a pansy.

Back by popular demand today and all weekend is our Venezuelan breakfast. Two fried eggs, sliced avocado on toast, grated 100% Venezuelan cacao & hot pepper sauce. Should we put this on our breakfast menu permanently?

April Fool's Day was yesterday. You can't fool me with that old unscrewing-the-lid-to-the-pepper-pot-and-watching-me-ruin-my-own-breakfast trick.

A lovely afternoon for coffee, cake & creativity. #shoplocal #sketchmcr #espresso A photo posted by Fig + Sparrow (@figsparrow) on Mar 31, 2016 at 7:06am PDT

The three "A"s sounds like a dodgy superhero collective and Urban Dictionary has some pretty unsavoury things to say about the three "B"s so really, it's all about the three "C"s: coffee, cake, and creativity. Or just cake. Maybe just the one "C," actually.

The world is your Jersey rock oyster with rhubarb granita.

The highlight of our Easter: Pizza Mexicana! Beer marinated seitan, pink pickled onions, habanero salsa, guacamole, chilli sauce & coriander. Burrito meets pizza- has ANYTHING better ever been created??? #vegan #whatveganseat #vegansofig #vegansofldn #veganpizza #veganfoodporn #veganfoodshare #pizza #mexican #seitan #guacamole #chilli #mexican A photo posted by Club Mexicana (@clubmexicana) on Mar 29, 2016 at 2:29am PDT

This is either the delicious combination of fresh Mexican ingredients and everyone's favourite carbohydrate-based dish, or a pile of jigsaw puzzle pieces that may resemble a Pre-Raphaelite still life if assembled correctly. Either way, best to start from the edges and work inwards.

Formica, weirdly elaborate teaspoons, and watery desserts: sometimes Gran really does know best.

Because as lovely as it is, the chips-and-peas combo can get a little stale. Variety is the spice of life, and all that.
