This Curry Shop Was Closed, So a Hungry Teen Set a Bunch of Stuff on Fire

It’s just like mama always said: Never get between a growing boy—especially one who just so happens to have a penchant for committing arson—and his curry.

In case you were wondering, it turns out that hell hath no fury like a teenage curry lover scorned.

Don't believe us? Why not ask one unlucky curry shop owner in the Japanese city of Higashiōsaka, who is undoubtedly pondering the meaning of life, as he ruminates on the remains of his restaurant. After all, just this Tuesday local investigators announced the arrest of a 16-year-old teenage boy on suspicion of starting at least two fires—and maybe as many as four fires—in Osaka Prefecture. As you probably already guessed, one of those fires occurred at one very unlucky curry restaurant.

The teenager's reason for setting the blazes? "I went to eat some curry, but the restaurant was closed. I got angry and used my lighter to start a fire," explained the teen to local authorities.

The four fires occurred within a short time of each other in the early morning hours of January 2. The first fire was set at a car dealership, where the arsonist is said to have set a banner ablaze. The second fire was started ten minutes later, this time at the storehouse of the curry restaurant, located about 200 yards from the car dealership.

Outside a nearby apartment complex, a bicycle and some garbage were also set on fire. Guess who?

The suspect has not been formally charged with setting these additional fires, but security cameras are said to show suspicious activity by a person who looks a lot like him.
According to Yahoo! News Japan, nobody was hurt in any of the fires. While neither the suspected teenager nor the curry shop were named in initial reports, the boy is said to be 16-years-old and works part time within Osaka Prefecture.

Luckily for the unnamed teenager, Japan's penal system takes curry pretty damn seriously, so he can expect to eat some good stuff should he be incarcerated in connection with the fires. Japan's Ministry of Justice announced last year that it was looking into ways to serve inmates a less watery curry after the issue was repeatedly raised by prisoners.

As for the curry shop, let's just hope the restaurant's insurance covers instances of hunger-induced arson.
