Kylie Jenner's Birthday Cake Order Just Saved This Quebec Bakery

We spoke to the local baker who almost called it quits on her cake shop until she got one magical order from Kaitlyn Jenner's daughter. So what does it actually feel like to make a cake for the 18-year-old who has everything?

Kylie Jenner's 18th birthday spectacle has breathed new life into a Quebec bakery.

Le Cozy Cafe has just been commissioned to design and create a birthday cake for the social media princess and Keeping Up the With the Kardashians cast member, who will be celebrating adulthood very soon at bro stomping ground, Beachclub, just outside of Montreal. (Because the drinking age in Quebec is 18, Beachclub is the ideal place for a grown woman like Jenner to get her drink on legally.)

All of this pop culture craziness had led to a steady increase in the local bakery's sales—approximately 30 percent—which came close to shutting down just weeks before the call for the Kylie cake came through.

But the stakes are high for Le Cozy Cafe, given that Kylie already received a lip-shaped cake during her LA birthday party last Sunday as an ode to her most famous (and fake) body part. She also received a white Ferrari from her rapper boyfriend, Tyga, which she then drove to the airport to hop on a private jet to continue birthday celebrations in Mexico.

So what does it actually feel like to make a cake for the 18-year-old who has everything?

MUNCHIES caught up with Le Cozy Cafe owner and cake artist Jessika Menard, who says she's not sweating the pressure.

MUNCHIES: Hey Jessika. Are you at all stressed about making a cake for Kylie Jenner? Jessika Menard: I really want our cake to be out there and I want her to be wowed, but I'm trying to be focused. For now, I'm just looking straight ahead and I do what I've got to do. Right now I don't really feel the pressure because I'm focused on what I have to do.

That sounds like a good attitude to have. How long have you been making cake? Believe it or not, I've only been making cakes for four years. It's a natural talent; I'm self-taught.

How has the last week been? It's been pretty crazy. I also own a restaurant that I'm trying run. I didn't just have Kylie Jenner's cake to make this week—I also had two wedding cakes to come up with as well, so it's been pretty busy.

And how was business pre-Kylie cake? I've always been busy here. But with the Kylie Jenner cake, all kinds of people are calling for a cake order or coming to the restaurant to take pictures of the cakes and also want to try my food. It's been increasing.

How has all of this media attention effected your sales? Since last week, I had 25 requests for cakes. But just yesterday, I had eight requests this week. The restaurant increased about 30 percent in the last two weeks. Every day I'm getting hit with requests. People are booking in advance because they want to have me for the cake.

That must be a pretty cool feeling? Yes it is. Yes it is.

So is it true that you were planning on shutting down your bakery before Kylie's cake order? We thought that it would be slow at the restaurant because we opened in January but it really sky-rocketed. I was thinking about stopping the cakes and being more picky, but since the Kylie Jenner cake, it's been going crazy. Now I'm rethinking the whole thing. My partner can take care of the restaurant and I can take care of my cakes.

Did you speak to Kylie? No. Beachclub called me. They've seen my cakes in the past and they know what I can do.

Have you seen the lip cake that Kylie had at her birthday party in LA? It was OK. In all honesty, it would have been extremely easy for me to make.

So how is your cake going to be different? The cake I'm making right now is really to wow Kylie. I want a "wow" cake! It's going to be glamour and it's going to be feminine.

Are you going to personalize it like the lip cake? No, we're in Quebec. She's going to be 18 years old, she's a girl. I looked at pictures of her and she's a feminine girl. It's going to be pink and gold and silver. Right now, the fashion in cake—I don't know if you know—it's really shabby-chic Victorian. I want to really focus on that look.

Thanks for talking to me, and good luck with your batter.
